Rovers: Getting Your Police Record Check (PRC)
Scouts Canada requires a clean Police Record Check (PRC) from all members 18 years of age and older — including Rovers — and it must be renewed every 3 years. (Rover Scouts do not need a Vulnerable Sector Search.)
There are two ways to get your PRC in BC. The online route is recommended: it is free for Scouts Canada volunteers, and the results go straight to Scouts Canada — no paperwork for you.
Option 1 — Online via the BC Ministry of Justice (recommended)
The BC Government's Criminal Record Review Program (CRRP) provides criminal record checks free of charge to Scouts Canada volunteers in the province, and the results are sent directly to Scouts Canada.
Before you start (one-time): set up a BC Services Card login at id.gov.bc.ca/account/setup-instruction. This can take a few days, but you will reuse the account for other BC Government services later. If you already have a BC Services Card login, go straight to step 1.
- Go to justice.gov.bc.ca/criminalrecordcheck
- Enter the access code BPMXBZZ8B9 and click Continue
- Log in with your BC Services Card (the preferred method — it skips the ID confirmation step and lets you see your application progress in real time). Other log-in methods can cause a significant delay — the Ministry has to ask Scouts Canada to verify your ID, and Scouts Canada then has to figure out who you are and who to contact to get it done, all after you submit.
- Confirm your information (organization: Scouts Canada; job title: Scouter), accept the Terms of Use, provide your mailing address, check off the declaration and consents, and submit
- Allow 10–20 business days for the Ministry of Justice to process the check and forward it to Scouts Canada. Your MyScouts record is updated once Scouts Canada receives the results.
Tracking your application
After you submit, you will receive a confirmation email from [email protected] with a link to your CRRP account, where you can watch your application status.

Option 2 — In person at the police station
- Download and fill out the Scouts Canada Request for Police Records Check letter:
- Fill in your name, date of birth, phone number, group (1st Abbotsford Scout Group), and volunteer role (Rover Scout).
- Check the first box — A CURRENT member or new Rover Scout requiring a Police/CRIMINAL RECORDS CHECK — Rovers do not need the Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Print the letter and take it, along with government-issued photo ID, to your local police department (in Abbotsford: the Abbotsford Police Department).
- Submit your results to Scouts Canada — most police services do not send them directly. Submit a copy within 3 months of the search date, ideally using the PRC submission form on support.scouts.ca, or by email to [email protected] with the subject PRC to Process, CC'ing the Group Commissioner at [email protected]. Include all pages, clearly legible.
Good to know
NOTE
- Scouts Canada accepts PRCs completed within the last 3 months of the search date (even though the Ministry allows sharing results for up to 5 years).
- If your date of birth and gender match a pardoned offender in the vulnerable sector, the CRRP may require fingerprints (at your expense through your local police agency). Most people only need this once every 10 years.
